Giving Back
Ross is extremely proud of the fact that he has worked closely with dozens of charitable, non-profit and philanthropic organizations and events over the past two decades which have raised millions of dollars for various causes. Whether its playing in or serving as a corporate sponsor in celebrity golf or hockey tournaments; attending charity galas and balls; donating money or books to fundraising events; or setting up charitable foundations for his many book subjects and clients — Ross believes strongly in the mantra of being a giver and about the power of karma.
As a speaker, Ross has donated (and worked at a greatly reduced rate) his time and service to a handful of non-profit charitable organizations over the years. He has also done several strategic fundraising initiatives as well, including a half-day seminar he recently did for the Minnesota chapter of the National Speakers Association that saw all dollars raised donated to the group’s apprentice program.
Ross has also written and published several books for charitable organizations that he believes in. In the Fall of 2009 Ross proudly donated complimentary copies of his coffee table book “Maroon & Gold Forever: Celebrating 125 Years of Gopher Football” to every season ticket holder in conjunction with the grand opening of TCF Bank Stadium. One game alone he signed more than 1,500 books, but it was all for a great cause — as all proceeds from the sale of the book benefited the “Golden Gopher Fund,” which supports scholarships for student-athletes.
In addition, Ross created a series of books for both the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame and the University of Minnesota “M” Club Hall of Fame. Both books, “The M” and “The Hall,” were given away as gifts at their respective organization’s annual gala induction dinners, and proceeds from sales went directly to the organizations.
Furthermore, Ross currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors of the Herb Brooks Foundation, a cause that is truly near and dear to his heart. The organization’s mission is to grow the base of hockey; give kids a positive hockey experience; and afford them opportunities to learn life lessons — all things that were very important to Herbie. The foundation also oversees the Herb Brooks Training Center in Blaine, MN, which was created to improve the game of hockey through proper player development via off-ice and on-ice skills training protocols. It’s truly am amazing facility. Proudly, a portion of the proceeds from many of Ross’ books benefit this wonderful 501C3 foundation.
